Hampshire businesses combine to stage free 'green' seminar

A free seminar aimed at helping businesses achieve net zero is being held in Hampshire next month. Three keynote speakers from county firms operating across different sectors will be on hand to offer specialist insight about working towards carbon neutrality.

Net zero carbon dioxide emissions is very much the holy grail for many businesses, not only boosting action against climate change but demonstrating the green credentials that can lead to better stakeholder engagement, higher revenue and reduced costs.

The Government’s Build Back Greener strategy sets out policies and proposals for decarbonising all sectors of the UK economy to meet a net zero target by 2050. The seminar is being organised jointly by HWB Chartered Accountants, financial advisers Eight Wealth Management and cost, procurement and carbon solutions company Auditel (U.K.).

‘Essential Advice for your Net Zero Journey’ will be held at Eight Wealth’s offices in Parkway, Whiteley on Wednesday, October 5 from 4pm to 6pm, with drinks and canapés provided before and after the presentations.

David Wilshin, carbon and procurement specialist at Winchester-based Auditel, will provide practical tips on how to make a business carbon neutral. He has a passion for environment and sustainability and has worked with blue chip companies helping them to reduce their carbon footprint without impacting upon service levels and costs.

He said: “In the current challenging economic climate, organisations are battling with the desire to drive growth and profitability while investing in low carbon emitting technologies to reduce their carbon footprint and speed up their journey to achieving net zero. We are there to help.”

Andy McKee, wealth management consultant at Eight Wealth Management, will look at green investments. Andy joined the FTSE 100 group St James’s Place in 2019 and has been working in the industry since 2001. He is a qualified financial planner helping families, individuals and businesses grow and protect their assets.

He said: “My job is to help clients set out and accomplish their goals, enabling them to feel confident in their financial future and retirement plans – and to do so in a sustainable way. It’s about creating financial wellbeing in a world worth living in.”

Alan Rolfe, from HWB of Chandler’s Ford, will discuss how environmentally conscious decisions can minimise tax charges and save money. Alan is a senior tax manager and has more than 30 years’ experience of assisting clients with VAT, PAYE/NIC, personal and corporate tax matters.

He said: “With a focus on the wide range of tax implications facing individuals and businesses when making choices regarding travel, property or business processes, I will highlight some of the top benefits that can be achieved from a better understanding of the tax rules.”

The event begins at 4pm for drinks and canapes and the presentations will start at 4.30pm, concluding by 5.30pm. Networking and further refreshments will be provided after the presentations.
