This week's North East appointments

This week’s round up of North East appointments includes Onyx Health, AspinallVerdi & NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau. Read on to find out more.

Trevor Pill, Onyx Health

Creative healthcare marketing communications agency Onyx Health has announced international growth plans following the appointment of Trevor Pill as the company’s new managing director. The Newcastle-based agency aims to expand its existing client base in the UK, Europe, New Zealand and the USA; which already includes some big industry names such as Bayer, Clinigen, Nova Laboratories and Foot Science International.

Trevor will be taking the helm from the agency’s founder Karen Winterhalter, who is stepping back from the day-to-day running of the business she founded almost 20 years ago in London before moving back to her native North East. Karen will, however, remain a Director of Onyx Health, concentrating on business development in her new role.

Karen Winterhalter said: “Since joining Onyx Health several years ago, Trevor has become one of the key driving forces behind the agency’s commercial success. I couldn’t hope to leave the business in better hands, and I am confident it will continue to grow and thrive under Trevor’s leadership.

“We’ve grown into an agency with a genuinely global reach. We have exciting plans for the agency’s future to reach new commercial and creative heights, and Trevor is the man to make sure that this happens.”

Commenting on his new role as managing director, Trevor said: “It’s a huge privilege to be taking the reins at Onyx Health. Working for the agency has enabled me to pursue my career to the next level, taking on numerous senior leadership roles and even becoming a shareholder of the business in 2021. We have exciting plans for global growth over the next few years, driven by developing integrated omnichannel communication campaigns.

Ian Ramsay, AspinallVerdi

Independent property regeneration consultants AspinallVerdi continue to expand with the appointment of Ian Ramsay as a consultant in the firm’s Newcastle-upon-Tyne office serving clients throughout the North East of England.

Ian joins the growing practice having completed his MSc in property development and planning at Nottingham Trent University and previously undertaking a bachelors in philosophy at the University of Newcastle. He also has a keen interest in historic buildings, having interned as an historic building surveyor at Nottinghamshire County Council.

His appointment coincides with the first anniversary of the opening of the Newcastle office of AspinallVerdi at The Core, Bath Lane, Newcastle Helix.

Led by director Brett Devenish and consultant Alasdair Ritchie, the expanding team serving the North East has secured clients throughout the region including Gateshead Council, Advance Northumberland, Tees Valley Combined Authority, Scarborough Borough Council, and Homes England.

Brett said: “After a great first year in the Newcastle office, it’s exciting to welcome Ian to the team and I look forward to seeing him progress on his journey towards chartership. The office has been taking on more and more work since opening a year ago, so it was essential that we expanded and found someone who shared AspinallVerdi’s values. Ian will bring an analytical and grounded perspective to the role.”

Jen Rea, NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau

NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau, part of NewcastleGateshead Initiative (NGI), has appointed a Head of Business Events and Travel Trade, a brand-new role for the organisation.

NGI is the destination and inward investment agency that delivers for Newcastle, Gateshead, and the wider region.

Jen Rea, who took up the position earlier this month, will be looking at a refreshed strategy for attracting and maximising new opportunities for the North East in the business events sector and travel trade industry.

On her appointment, Jen said: “The business events sector in Newcastle and Gateshead is worth approximately £149m to the regional economy and we are now looking ahead to how we can grow this figure and continue to support our longstanding business events community.

“I’m really excited to hit the ground running in this brand-new role and continue to create more opportunities for our fantastic region alongside a brilliant team.”
