Shamila Hussain, Morrish Solicitors

Shamila Hussain has joined the family team as a solicitor, moving to Leeds from Manchester where she specialised in both private family law and publicly-funded children’s cases.

Shamila joins the head of department Noelle Heath, who was promoted to partner in October 2022, and a trainee solicitor in Morrish’s expanding family team.

Shamila Hussain said: “I am delighted to join Morrish Solicitors and to be part of the family department, and am excited to join the wider team. Morrish Solicitors has a brilliant working environment and I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to continue my legal career with such a reputable firm.

Claire Loftus, Abbie Churchill, Helen Donaghy, Daniel Kenworthy Natalie White & Claire Guthrie, Ison Harrison

Leading law firm Ison Harrison has made a series of promotions across its network of Yorkshire offices.

Among the promotions from solicitor to partner are Claire Loftus, Abbie Churchill and Helen Donaghy. Daniel Kenworthy has been promoted to assistant head of residential conveyancing across the whole firm, Natalie White takes on the role of finance director and Claire Guthrie is promoted to head of accounts and cashiers.

Ison Harrison, which has a network of seventeen offices throughout the region, was founded in 1978. Forty-four years later it now employs more than 240 staff across Yorkshire and offers the broadest suite of legal services in the region.

Commenting on the promotions, Jonathan Wearing, managing director said: “I’m delighted to see these promotions off the back of one of our most successful years in our history. The contributions to the firm from the promoted individuals are all richly deserved.”

Richard Topliss, Traditum Private Equity

Traditum Private Equity has appointed long-standing career banker Richard Topliss as its inaugural Chair. Richard, who was NatWest’s Regional Managing Director for the North of England and North Wales, retired at the end of December after more than 40 years with the bank. Prior to moving to the North West in 2000 Richard worked for NatWest in Bristol, London, Birmingham and Scotland.

He is also a member of the Greater Manchester Local Enterprise Partnership and the North West Business Leadership Team, and Chair of The Growth Company. Traditum which launched in Leeds in 2019 and has a strategic focus on long-term investment in UK-based businesses, in particular in the technology, sustainability, property, healthtech and agricultural sectors.

David Mitchell, Traditum CEO says appointing a Chair with the necessary strategic leadership and governance skills was a non-negotiable, however he says; “Richard obviously excels with these skills, but having someone of his calibre and depth of banking and private equity knowledge will be a real asset to Traditum. He will guide our client services and be a pivotal part of our investment committee.

Richard adds: “Traditum’s unique approach is a key attraction for me. I have a long-held belief in the need for patient capital to support growing businesses. I hope the experience I bring, together with the energy, creativeness and vision of David and the team will be a winning combination.”

Dr Kerry Mashford OBE, Trust Electric Heating

Fast growing Yorkshire-based sustainable heating manufacturer Trust Electric Heating has appointed former National Energy Foundation chief executive Dr Kerry Mashford OBE to the board as non-executive chair to support the company’s next growth phase.

Trust Electric Heating managing director Fiona Conor says, “To help us capitalise on the opportunities these new products present and step up to the next level, we’re looking for input, support and governance from someone who understands our industry as well as the sustainable building agenda, energy system transition, technology and innovation.

“I am thrilled to say that Kerry brings all of these attributes and more. Her knowledge and experience will be invaluable at board level, and she will also be a fantastic sounding board for our product development team.”

Kerry Mashford adds, “This role brings together a lot of threads from my career and the team at Trust has a great innovation mindset: one of the many things that attracted me to the business. The combination of manufacturing and innovation in a business that is focused on sustainability and operates with a predominantly UK supply chain ticks a lot of boxes for me.”
