North East attraction looking for new leadership following 2.5 million pound investment
Land of Iron is an immersive museum, located in Skinningrove, at the site of a former ironstone mine.
Opened in 1848, the site was the first in the region. Later becoming a visitor attraction in 1983, under the name Tom Leonard Mining Museum.
The investment supported a range of improvements across the museum. Work included expanding its exhibition area, installing classrooms and rebranding the museum, reopening as Land of Iron in January 2023.
Doff Pollard, Trustee said, “It is an exciting time for us at the museum. People who have visited so far have given us rave reviews and we are forecasting a bumper summer”.
To support the museum’s continued growth, two roles are currently available. These are Museum Manager and Marketing Manager.
“We’re now looking to add two passionate members of our team. They will play a pivotal role in helping us develop and deliver our plans for the future”.
Support for the museum has been widespread. Funding coming from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Coastal Communities Fund and Tees Valley Combined Authority (SSI task force). Private donations have also contributed towards this project.
Further information about the roles is available on the Land of Iron website.
The closing date for applications is 28th February 2023.
