I’ve just earnt my first half a million as a business owner. Here’s five things you need to know to do the same.

When I first started my business, The Entrepreneurs Growth Club, three years ago, it was simply a facebook group. I started the group during lockdown for fun as part of my ‘covid goals’ to network with more entrepreneurs who ran their own businesses too. After all, being a business owner during lockdown was a pretty lonely place at times. Yet, three years later, the facebook group has transformed into a multi-six figure business and a thriving community of 7000 business owners. It spawned a podcast of the same name (which is top 25 in the Podbean business charts) and led to me to write the bestselling business book, ‘Sales is Easy, If You Just Know How.’ We celebrated our third birthday just last week and, at the same time, hit £500,000 pounds in sales.

When I started the group, it was for fun and I never in a million years dreamed it would grow into such an amazing community and become such a successful business. The group has allowed me to make friends, take my business to a new place and find my community. It’s not just about the money but, it’s also an important milestone to be celebrated. So I wanted to share my top tips for business owners wanting to reach their financial milestones: whether that’s making a profit; earning £5k a month or having a million pounds in your sight.

1 - Show up for your audience

One of the things I feel most strongly about showing up for my audience. Since starting my facebook group, I have delivered a free business training every single Sunday at 8pm in the group-whether I’ve been on holiday or had a thousand things on my to-do list. I am very active in my group and in my membership, The Entrepreneurs Business Lounge. I am also chatting on instagram stories every single day! Even if your audience is only a handful of people, you need to show up consistently to get results. Even if you feel like nobody is watching, they soon will be!

2 - Do one thing every day to move your business forward

I always say the same thing: just do one thing every day to move yourself forward! When I became a mum, I had a huge vision and big goals but found it so tough looking after a baby at the same time. I came up with this idea of just doing one thing every day to move my business forward. Sometimes I might only get half an hour to work on my business, but I knew that each day I could just do one thing to move it forward, and if I did that then in a year’s time I would be 365 steps ahead of where I was! It’s so simple but it really works. What could you do each day to keep your business moving?

3 - Make sales a priority

Another thing I’d say is sales is central to any business, without sales you don’t have a business and yet a lot of business owners aren’t spending their time cracking the sales in their business-they just expect sales to come to them. So focus on this first. I always advise you to be spending a huge percentage of your time each day on bringing the sales into your business. Don’t forget to follow up and close sales. Are you asking for the sale or just waiting for it to come to you?

4 - Set clear business goals

Have you set your goals for growth or are you just hoping to achieve them without a plan? At the end of 2018, I went to a goal setting workshop and I’ve implemented goals in my business ever since.

Every day, I write ten goals down that I am working towards and then one main goal that I am focusing on out of that list again to make sure I’m focused on it. This doesn’t have to just be about business: the first goal that I achieved was learning how to run! Despite not being at all sporty, I set a goal and then in 2021 I ran The London Marathon which is probably my biggest achievement yet.

It’s helped me in other areas of my life. I’ve written a book, launched a podcast, built a side hustle to multi six figures, flown on a private jet and developed a passive income strategy. None of this is by chance-I’ve set the goals to make it happen.

5 - Attitude is everything.

If you think you can make your business a success you will, and if you don’t you won’t, it’s as simple as that. For me, even when starting my first business at 21, failure was not an option for me. My business, which was then a theatre school, was going to be a success-despite the first program I ran running at a loss!

You have to be behind your product or service with unwavering faith or it won’t sell. We are also a product of the five people we spend our time with, so make sure you are also surrounding yourself with people who believe that you can do it-which is why I love my facebook community so much.

Everyday, I believe in waking up to a mantra such as ‘I am a magnet for sales,’ what would yours be?
