Paul Griffiths, FW capital

FW Capital is increasing its investment activity across the North after receiving an additional £9.48m funding boost as part of the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund (NPIF). Paul Griffiths also joins FW Capital as an investment executive, strengthening the North East team.

An experienced banker, Paul has over 30 years’ financial services experience working previously for Handelsbanken, Santander and HSBC. His most recent position was Innovation Manager at the University of Hull working on the innovation and grant support programme Sparkfund.

In his role as investment executive at FW Capital Paul will be responsible for providing funding to Northern businesses from the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund. The additional £9.48m funding increases FW Capital’s Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund allocation to £172m.

Commenting on joining FW Capital Paul Griffiths said: “The Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund is playing a key role in driving the growth of businesses across the North. I’m looking forward to working with business owners to support innovation and expansion, encouraging new jobs and opportunities which will support the local economy.”

Joanne Whitfield, FW Capital fund director added: “Paul’s appointment will further strengthen our team’s credentials. He has an impressive background in financial services and is passionate about supporting the region’s businesses. His combination of banking experience and working on Sparkfund has given him a wider perspective of the challenges businesses are facing when approaching organisations for finance.”

Tom Small, Muckle LLP

Tom Small has joined North East leading law firm for business Muckle LLP as a solicitor in its top-ranked real estate team.

The 27-strong team, headed up by partner Jonathan Combe, welcomes Tom following an extended period of growth. Tom will deal with sales purchases, leases, refinancing, property acquisitions and disposals, and property aspects of corporate deals.

Tom said: “I’ve always known about Muckle and knew that when the opportunity arose, this was the firm I wanted to join. Muckle’s real estate team is ranked top tier by Legal 500 UK and it’s also one of the largest in the North, with a great team of lawyers with a wide range of specialisms. Helen Ewles & Jamie Sim, Avison Young

Avison Young, the global real estate advisor, has announced the promotion of Helen Ewles and Jamie Sim to Associate within the respective Real Estate Management and Investment Agency teams, at their Newcastle office.

Helen has extensive property management experience for both private and public sector clients including Ares, Taras Properties and a number of local authorities.

Jamie, following an initial appointment in the valuation team, now deals with the acquisition and sale of investment properties across all sectors throughout the north east region.

Gordon Hewling, principal and managing director, Newcastle said. “This is great news and just reward for their ability, hard work and attitude – both client-facing and within the office generally.”
