Jon Davage, Bermans

Liverpool and Manchester commercial law firm Bermans has appointed Jon Davage to become its first managing director.

A corporate solicitor in the North West for over 20 years, Jon joined Bermans in January 2012 from Manchester commercial firm, LLM, and has been instrumental in driving the expansion of Bermans in Manchester into a full commercial and corporate offering. Prior to LLM, he worked for Turner Parkinson, now part of Knights plc.

Jon will maintain his role as head of corporate law and will remain involved in corporate transactions. However, he will take overall responsibility for driving the firm’s growth, working closely with partners, Fergal O’Cleirigh and Phil Farrelly, and Brian Cullen and Joanna Kingston-Davies, who form the Bermans board.

Klarrissa Nura & Josh Malyan, Maven Capital Partners

Maven Capital Partners has announced the appointment of Klarissa Nura and Josh Malyan as investment associates. Klarissa and Josh will support the local investment team working with high growth businesses to offer finance through NPIF - Maven Equity Finance (“The Fund”), which is part of the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund (“NPIF”), across Maven’s North West office network.

Klarissa is an economics and management graduate, specialising in strategic finance with a background in sustainability and sustainable investment. Prior to joining Maven she worked with the ImpactVest team as project lead, and a research analyst at Capitol in sustainable investment. Josh is a graduate with a master’s in financial and computational mathematics from the University of Nottingham.

Maven’s new hires will enable the launch of a series of live 1-2-1 investment clinics in March. The clinics will enable companies to identify the most suitable type of finance to meet their funding needs. Run by Maven’s local investment team, who have two dedicated Investment Managers for each sub-region they operate in, the clinics will be held across Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Cheshire and Liverpool City Region.

Ryan Bevington, fund manager, NPIF North West Equity Fund at Maven, said “We are delighted to welcome Klarissa and Josh as we further strengthen our presence across the Northern Powerhouse region.”

Sean Hutchinson, senior manager at the British Business Bank, said: “Klarissa and Josh’s appointment is a clear sign that talent can be retained in the North and that the business landscape is full of opportunities for young and upcoming investment professionals.”

Will Humphrey, Sugar Creative

Sugar Creative are pleased to announce that Will Humphrey has joined the board of directors at Sugar Creative as Innovation and Creative Director. Will Humphrey has joined Jason Veal, the Managing Director, as a major shareholder and director at the agency. This announcement comes just as Sugar is about to take to the stage at the GDC gaming conference in San Francisco later this month.

Sugar Creative will also be revealing their upcoming “Project V” platform, a rapid VR authoring tool for storytellers at GDC. Will is regarded as one of the UKs most inspirational and boundary pushing innovators combining technical understanding and creative passion. His work has received multiple international awards and he was recognized in the most recent BIMA 100.

Managing director, Jason said, “Having Will’s expertise has been invaluable for Sugar as a business, and has been instrumental in Sugar becoming a global leader in the immersive sector.
