This week’s round up of London appointments features Laytons ETL, Hybrid Planning & Development & Beam. Read on to find out more…

Michael Kashis, Laytons ETL

Laytons ETL, the City of London international commercial law firm, has appointed Michael Kashis as managing partner CEO. He takes over from managing partner John Abbott, who is stepping back to focus on his international dispute resolution practice.

He said, “I am very excited to be joining such a fantastic team of lawyers with such an extensive and wide-ranging practice serving clients from every corner of the world. It is going to be a pleasure to be able to dedicate myself to a full-time management role and I am relishing the prospect of being able to grow the firm and fulfil its considerable potential.”

Mr Abbott, from whom Mr Kashis will take over, joined Laytons following its merger with Silverman Sherliker LPP in 2017. He had worked for the latter firm since 1997, and served as its managing partner between 2012 and 2014.

Mr Abbott said, “I am looking forward to supporting Michael in his new role as well as returning to and further developing my mediation and international arbitration practices. I am pleased to be able to hand over a profitable firm which is growing strongly on a sustainable footing.”

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of them for their loyalty and support throughout my term of office.”

Sophie Hardy, Aaron Henecke, Charlotte Mills, Elliot Smith & Paula Moura, Hybrid Planning & Development

Hybrid Planning & Development, the award-winning planning consultancy specialising in urban, mixed-use developments, has announced promotions for five of its team.

The East London-based firm reports that Sophie Hardy and Aaron Henecke have been appointed associate directors, Charlotte Mills becomes senior planner, Elliot Smith becomes a planner and Paula Moura is promoted to assistant planner.

Hybrid’s director and co-founder, Danielle St Pierre comments: “These promotions follow on from a solid period of growth, where we’ve seen a 15 per cent increase in work over the past 12 months.

“We’re under no illusion this success is down to our brilliant and hardworking team, and the emphasis they put on building longstanding client relationships. As we seek further growth, the time was right to reward these five talented planning professionals and help them take the next step in their careers at Hybrid.”

Following these promotions, Hybrid’s company structure now encompasses two distinct teams. These will be led by newly appointed associate directors, Sophie and Aaron, although cross-team working will be much encouraged to support workload, mentoring and specific knowledge sharing. Current flagship projects include:

Helena Horsburgh, Beam

Social impact startup Beam has hired Twilio’s Helena Horsburgh as its second Chief of Staff following a period of rapid growth. In the past 12 months, Beam has doubled its headcount to 90 people and expanded to major cities including Manchester, Leeds and Newcastle.

Horsburgh joins Beam from tech unicorn Twilio, where she was Chief of Staff to the Senior Vice President of International. While there, she was responsible for strategic projects focused on organisational design and regulatory compliance, as well as running operations and internal communications for Twilio’s EMEA, APAC and LATAM regions.

Helena Horsburgh, Beam’s new chief of staff, said: “I’ve worked for ambitious, high-growth tech companies my whole career, and Beam is no different. I’m excited to roll up my sleeves again while working on a mission that’s close to my heart.”

Alex Stephany, founder and CEO of Beam, said: “Helena brings exceptional sales and operations experience from three iconic listed tech businesses, which will be invaluable as we grow Beam. Beam is transforming how government teams all around the UK support those left behind and I’m excited for her to lead the charge on these crucial relationships.”
