This week’s Yorkshire appointments: Featuring Helmsley Group, Dransfield Properties and Northern Accountants
This week’s round up of Yorkshire appointments includes Helmsley Group, Dransfield Properties Ltd and Northern Accountants. Read on to find out more…
Alexia Swift-Cookson, Helmsley Group
Property investment and development specialist, Helmsley Group, has appointed Alexia Swift-Cookson to its board of directors. Alexia joined the York based company last year as its head of asset management and since then, has been “instrumental” in driving the growth of its £200m syndicated investment portfolio.
Alexia’s appointment follows the announcement last year that director Ed Harrowsmith had become a shareholder in the business, alongside Tom Boyle becoming both a director and the group’s head of finance.
Richard Peak, managing director at Helmsley Group, commented: “As demonstrated by our recently submitted plans to regenerate Coney Street Riverside, it’s a very exciting time for us as a business, and our recent changes to the board also reflect that.
“We have always been committed to delivering the best possible investment opportunities to our client network, and Alexia has not only instinctively understood this approach since she was first appointed but has also been vital in driving this strategy forward.”
Alexia added: “What first stood out to me when I joined Helmsley was the business’s commitment to investing in areas that it knows best, helping to deliver transformational change on both a local and a regional level.
“Having worked with the Group for the best part of a year now, it’s clear that this ethos runs through everything that it does. I’m incredibly pleased to have been promoted to the board and to be taking on an even greater role in contributing to the positive development and diversification of the business as a whole.”
(L - R): Mark Dransfield DL and James Shepherd, Dransfield Properties Ltd
Award-winning South Yorkshire property firm Dransfield Properties Ltd has strengthened its senior team of directors. The company’s founder, Mark Dransfield DL, has been appointed to the new role of chairman, with estates director James Shepherd taking the reins as managing director.
James Shepherd joined the company in 2009 as a trainee surveyor. The last 14 years have seen his appointment to head up the company’s management arm, GVFM, as well as being invited to the main board as Estates Director in 2016. He’ll now take on the day-to-day running of the property portfolio from the Fox Valley head office as Managing Director.
James commented: “I am delighted to be taking on this important role for the business as we look to the future. Our industry has faced many tough challenges in recent years, but one thing that never changes is our commitment to delivering and maintaining high-quality developments for our communities and our tenants.
“Our agile and prudent approach has ensured we are in a strong position as we continue to grow, and I’m looking forward to leading our team through that growth.”
Mark added: “We are incredibly proud of what James has achieved at Dransfield Properties and pleased to be promoting within our own ranks to make him managing director, a role which he thoroughly deserves. I have no doubt he will make a success of his new role and look forward to the continued success of DPL under his day-to-day leadership.”
“I am looking forward to taking on the new role of chairman, which is going to give me the time and opportunity to focus on our retail arm in Sandersons and also exploring new opportunities which arise.”
Mark Alderson and Anelya Tucker, Northern Accountants
Northern Accountants, a 25 strong practice with offices in Liverpool, Hull and its Leeds HQ, has announced the appointment of a new director. Mark Alderson has been awarded an internal promotion to the board, six months after joining the award-winning business.
Having joined the firm as senior client manager in Q3 of 2022, after spending 11 years with a boutique accountancy practice in the Yorkshire Dales, Mark has quickly demonstrated his ability to add value to clients’ organisations.
Mark’s directorship also coincides with the definition of additional internal structure, which sees Anelya Tucker promoted to client manager and head of the newly-formed business division. This fresh department, which currently includes 350 organisations, is dedicated to the provision of agile accountancy support and guidance, for more autonomous customers.
Founding managing director Phil Ellerby commented: “Some clients come to us because we can fulfil all their financial needs, with analysts and advisors on hand to drive business growth strategies too,”
“This is where Mark excels, alongside Ricky Field who was appointed as our Hull director last year. They look beyond the numbers alone, to uncover other factors that can become real enablers of business success.
“Other clients don’t require that level of support, but the quality of service should still be stellar. That’s what Anelya ensures, as we continue to grow. It means we can efficiently take on more and more clients in this division too.”
