This week’s round up of North East appointments features The Silver Birch, Gateley Legal & Kajima. Read on to find out more…

Nathan Cornwell, The Silver Birch

Chiswick’s neighbourhood restaurant, The Silver Birch, is delighted to announce the appointment of Nathan Cornwell as head chef, coinciding with its second birthday in May. Cornwell, who previously served as head chef working alongside chef patron Mark Birchall at the award-winning The Barn at Moor Hall, brings his wealth of experience and expertise to the restaurant.

During his four-year tenure at Lancashire’s The Barn at Moor Hall, Cornwell helped the restaurant achieve several accolades and awards, cementing its position as one of the UK’s top restaurants.

The Barn at Moor Hall opened in 2017 and two years later, Cornwell was at the helm working alongside Mark to ensure the menus celebrated ingredients picked from the kitchen garden or produced within the venue’s five-acre estate. In 2022, The Barn at Moor Hall was awarded a coveted Michelin star.

The Silver Birch, which has become a local favourite since opening its doors two years ago, will continue to offer the same warm and welcoming atmosphere, overseen by General Manager Sunny Kharbanda.

Douglas Leapman, Gateley Legal

Gateley Legal has strengthened its residential development team in Guildford with the appointment of Douglas Leapman as a legal director.

Leapman joins the team from Thomson Snell & Passmore where he spent the past three years advising regional housebuilders, land promoters and landowners on a broad spectrum of development matters relating to site acquisitions. Prior to this, Leapman spent four years in the residential development department at DAC Beachcroft, where he also qualified as a solicitor.

In his role at Gateley Legal, Leapman will support housebuilder, developer and landowner clients on acquisition and development matters, as the residential development team continues to expand its client base across the South East.

Douglas Leapman stated: “I am really pleased to be joining the residential development team in Guildford. Gateley Legal has built a strong reputation for its work with housebuilder and developer clients nationally, and I am looking forward to being part of an established multi-hub team within a large organisation that is able to support clients with all of their development needs.”

Andy Wilson, partner at Gateley Legal, comments: “Due to a growing client base, and increased number of legal panel appointments across the South East, we continue to strengthen our team with new talent. Douglas brings a strong background in handling housebuilder and developer matters and will make a great addition to our acquisitions team in Guildford.”

Phil undertook multiple leadership positions during his 13 years at Bloomberg, including capital project management. He delivered projects in over 15 European locations and worked on Bloomberg’s landmark £1bn RIBA Stirling Prize-winning European headquarters in the City of London.

Philip McLaughlin, project director at Kajima, said: “I am excited to join Kajima’s European team. The business has a great reputation in the market and an impressive track record of investments across the UK and Europe.
