This week’s round up of North East appointments includes NEL Fund Managers, the North East England Chamber of Commerce and Savage Silk.

Susan Snowdon and Sarah Carr, NEL Fund Managers

Regional fund management firm NEL Fund Managers has strengthened its investment team with two new appointments. Susan Snowdon has been recruited by the Newcastle based firm as an investment executive, while Sarah Carr has joined the team in an investment administrator role.

Susan brings more than three decades’ experience of working in the corporate, commercial and finance sectors to her new position, having fulfilled a range of North East roles with organisations including Royal Bank of Scotland and NatWest, and she is also diploma qualified in regulated financial planning.

Sarah holds a degree in Business Studies from Northumbria University and works with businesses looking to access growth capital from NEL, explaining how the process works and supporting the investment team in processing the applications they receive.

Susan commented: “Building strong relationships with management teams and the region’s professional services community is essential to NEL’s long-term success, and it’s an area on which I’ve focussed in many of my previous roles.

Jonathan Luke, chief executive at NEL Fund Managers, added: “Our investment team works to understand how potential investee firms operate, how they might use the capital we have available and what impact it will have in terms of their capacity to grow and create new North East jobs.

“Both Susan and Sarah have made strong starts to their careers with NEL and we’re very pleased to have added them to our team.”

The North East England Chamber of Commerce has appointed a new executive team to serve the interests of its members across the region.

Established Chamber team member Jennifer Rycroft has been promoted to executive director membership and Rhiannon Bearne is now executive director policy and representation. Aneela Ali joins the Chamber team as executive director finance and corporate services. All three have joined the Chamber’s main board with immediate effect.

Chief executive John McCabe commented: “The North East economy is going through a period of change with challenges to overcome and enormous potential to seize. The Chamber’s new structure, headed by this strong and talented Executive Team, ensures we are ready to play our full part in creating a stronger, fairer North East.

“Jen and Rhiannon contribute so much to our work and have consistently proven themselves as outstanding leaders in the business. Aneela joins us with a strong track record of achieving commercial success and developing and implementing resource strategies to grow finances, ensuring long term sustainability.”

Aneela started her journey in finance as a project consultant at Alstom Power, gaining practical hands-on experience and working her way up the ladder over a 16-year-long career. She’s worked at high-profile companies such as Avery Dennison, Sage and London North Eastern Railway.

Aneela was previously on the Chamber’s council representing the transport sector and played an active role in their race, ethnicity and diversity commission.

Paul Bury, Savage Silk

North East Law firm, Savage Silk continues its recruitment drive with the appointment of “one of the region’s leading” corporate and commercial lawyers, Paul Bury. During his legal career, spanning almost four decades, Paul advised a number of high profile organisations including ICI.

Paul, who is highly regarded for providing first class legal advice to businesses in the region and beyond, has experience of dealing with a wide range of corporate matters, across a broad spectrum of sectors, including acquisitions and disposals, corporate restructuring, investments, corporate governance, commercial contracts, and intellectual property.

Prior to joining Savage Silk, Paul held the position of managing partner for Endeavour Partnership, in Stockton for almost nine years having co-founded the firm in 1999.

It has been interesting watching the firm go from strength to strength over the last few years, and I am excited to be working with their clients to help them overcome commercial challenges.
