The UK arm of European workwear manufacturer Alsico has appointed Charlotte Clarke, as its new managing director to propel the business into its new growth strategy, with news that current managing director David Toon will step into the role of chairman.

Currently serving as UK commercial director, Charlotte has overseen the transformation of Alsico’s sales operation and has been responsible for driving sustainable business growth.

With over 20 years of experience within the industry, and multiple senior positions held at Alsico and leading safety workwear supplier Arco, Charlotte will be shaping the future of Alsico UK and its performance against the business’ exciting growth plans in her new role as managing director.

Charlotte commented: “I am thrilled to be furthering my career with Alsico, and stepping into a role that means as much to me personally as it does professionally. I look forward to combining my passion, commitment and experience in the sector to build upon the fantastic foundation delivered by our team, and drive our strategic vision forward.”

Charlotte’s appointment as managing director follows David Toon’s move to chairman, which will both officially commence on October 1 2023. David formed Alsico UK back in 2007 and has since been responsible for driving the UK business forward, delivering growth in the UK and value to the wider Alsico Group business across Europe.

David added: “Under Charlotte’s leadership, I firmly believe the company will continue to go from strength to strength and uphold the keen focus we place on quality manufacturing and customer experience. I would like to congratulate Charlotte on her new role and wish her the best in taking Alsico to the next level.”

Gary Mackintosh, Mabbett & Associates Ltd

Following the full integration of GH Johnston Building Consultants Ltd (GHJ) in March 2023 as a new Planning & Design division within Mabbett & Associates Ltd, the company continues its growth journey, welcoming Gary Mackintosh, formerly owner of GMC Surveys), as principal engineer.

Gary’s expertise in drainage, topographical surveys and roads design will further enhance Mabbett’s existing capabilities to development clients, particularly in the Highlands, Moray and Aberdeenshire.

He is a “well-known, experienced and respected” engineering consultant held in high regard by local authorities and key stakeholders across the Highlands with an existing, established personal and working relationship with Mabbett.

Having worked alongside Kenny Shand, Mabbett’s director of Planning & Design, in a previous role, he has previously been providing drainage and topographic surveys to the Mabbett team to support planning applications for mixed residential and commercial developments.

James Forbes, director of engineering (pictured right), commented: “I am delighted to welcome Gary into our Engineering Group. His capabilities in drainage, topography and roads design will broaden Mabbett’s offering allowing us to provide greater depth of services to our development clients.

Gary added: “My new role gives me the ideal opportunity to extend the reach of my services to a wider client base across Moray and the Highlands whilst introducing additional professional services, such as: planning support, architectural design and site investigations to my existing clients.”

Alan Wales, Jones Hargreaves

The Manchester office of Jones Hargreaves, a commercial building, project and sustainability consultancy, has hired a senior associate partner as the firm continues its expansion.

Alan Wales joins Jones Hargreaves from Hollis in Manchester, where he held an associate role. Wales has an extensive background in the commercial property industry, having previously worked at Colliers as Associate Director and CBRE where he was a chartered building surveyor.

Wales has worked across Manchester and the North West region throughout his career and brings with him a particular focus on contract administration, project management, technical due diligence, dilapidations, tenant alterations and project monitoring.

Alan commented: “I’m very pleased to join a fast-growing, agile and experienced business at a time when there is a real uptick in commercial property projects across the North West and beyond. I’m looking forward to working with a variety of new and existing clients to continually deliver high quality projects with sustainability built into everything we do.”

Nick Twigg, partner at Jones Hargreaves, added: “We’re thrilled to welcome Alan to the team, his knowledge and experience of the North West commercial property market will be invaluable to clients across the region.
