David Bowcock, Fieldfisher Manchester

Newly appointed managing partner at Fieldfisher in Manchester, David Bowcock, looks forward to spreading the word about the law firm in the North West.

David joined Fieldfisher as head of corporate in 2018, having previously spent 16 years at Eversheds and nine years at Brabners. He was appointed managing partner of Fieldfisher Manchester on May 1.

Fieldfisher has been a full service firm in Manchester since 2014 and has grown significantly, with 26 partners and over 130 legal staff in total. Turnover at the office has doubled in the past six years.

Bowcock commented: “I’m delighted to lead the office in its next stage of growth in Manchester. We have an incredible team of entrepreneurial and talented lawyers in the city and over the years we’ve grown to become a really strong offering.

John Osborn, Neil Morgan, Matthew Daniels and Rhydian Day: Gateley Smithers Purslow

Gateley Smithers Purslow, the multi-disciplinary surveying, engineering and architecture practice arm of legal and professional services group Gateley, has expanded its presence in South Wales with a new Cardiff office base and four team appointments.

The Cardiff team is led by regional manager and chartered building surveyor, John Osborn. He joined Gateley Smithers Purslow (GSP) in 2020 and was promoted to regional manager in 2022. He holds more than 30 years of experience in commercial building surveying work and has also previously worked within local government.

Senior building surveyor, Neil Morgan, brings 12 years of experience in insurance-based surveying to the Cardiff team. His appointment bolsters GSP’s insurance service offering in South Wales and will see him managing projects for insurance and loss-adjuster clients.

Matthew Daniels joins as a chartered building surveyor. He brings eight years of experience from a practice specialising in private client work. At GSP, he will focus on insurance projects including the recording of damage claims, as well as designing and specifying repair works.

GSP has appointed Rhydian Day as a senior structural engineer. He brings 15 years of specialist structural design and defect appraisal expertise to the team. As well as private clients, Rhydian has also previously supported housing associations, local authorities and loss adjusters.

Bryan Downey joins GSP’s Cardiff team as a chartered structural engineer. Downey brings more than 20 years of experience from a structural and civil engineering consultancy in West Wales, which he joined after graduating from Cardiff University. At GSP, he will focus on structural design and defects work, as well as subsidence work for insurance companies.

Victoria Shepherdson, AHR

Victoria Shepherdson joins AHR’s healthcare team as associate director in architecture, based in the Bristol office.

An expert in the field of healthcare, her experience spans acute and primary care centres to large-scale hospitals and mental health facilities. Victoria brings to the practice over 25 years of experience where she will help to develop an extensive portfolio of work.

On her appointment, she commented: “I’m looking forward to tapping into my experience in creating life-changing environments for people, especially during their lowest points, and applying this to future work at AHR.

“Our designs can have a positive impact on people’s mental and physical wellbeing and I’m excited to work together with the team towards this goal.”
