Indeed and Brentford FC set out to boost local employment through jobs fair

Hundreds of young people are expected at the Gtech Community Stadium on Wednesday when the global matching and hiring platform, Indeed, and Brentford FC Community Sports Trust, host an in-person jobs fair.

With the rate of unemployment amongst 18-24-year-olds reaching its highest level in two years, the event on 14 June helps connect young jobseekers in west London with actively hiring employers as well as find out more about apprenticeships, internships and training opportunities.

Employers including the Ministry of Justice, VolkerFitzpatrick, Thames Water, Essex Police, the NHS and Brentford FC will promote their opportunities while advisors from the Department of Work and Pensions and other careers experts will also be on hand to guide jobseekers.

The event will also feature guest speakers, career advice and skills workshops to provide jobseekers with a range of resources and information to help them kick-start their careers. Attendees could even walk away with an on the spot job offer from companies interviewing for hundreds of live roles.

For around 165 people, the jobs fair marks their successful graduation from the Indeed Skills Lab, a three-month community programme geared to support young local unemployed people in kick-starting their careers. The scheme, which launched in April, has featured a series of work-ready workshops focusing on advice and skills, including job search, CV writing, and interview techniques.

With the claimant count amongst 16–24-year-olds in Ealing (5.2%) and Hounslow (5.8%), target areas for the partnership, higher than the national average of 5.1% for that age group, the programme aims to lower barriers people face when finding work and help hundreds of young people get jobs.

Bill Richards, UK managing director at the global hiring platform, Indeed, said: “Indeed’s mission is to help people get jobs but for many young people the process of finding work is anything but a level playing field.

“By working with Brentford FC Community Sports Trust, our aim is to tackle the challenges young jobseekers face by educating, inspiring and connecting them with the right career opportunities. For those attending our jobs fair including our first Indeed Skills Lab cohort, we hope the event provides the first steps in a promising career.”

Hannah Barnett, head of social, education and Health Hub at Brentford FC Community Sports Trust, comments: “We are thrilled to collaborate with Indeed to create genuine prospects for our local youth. Recognising that proper assistance, training, knowledge, and exposure to opportunities are vital, we are confident that young individuals will flourish as they embark on their professional journeys.

“We’re looking forward to uniting employers with jobseekers to address this imperative and to empower the youth within our community.”
