Martin Smith, Muir Group

Family-owned Muir Group has appointed Martin Smith as their CEO. Martin joins the Fife based company from ISG where he was director of operations for Major Projects.

Martin has held a number of senior management positions, including area director for Miller Construction, managing director (Central Region) for Robertson Group and divisional director at Interserve Construction.

Martin’s first role in the industry following his graduation from the University of Strathclyde in 1994, was as an engineer with Muir Group where he gained invaluable knowledge and experience enabling him to progress a career in project management.

Martin commented: “Despite the many economic challenges faced by our industry over recent years, Muir Group has retained its position as one of the most highly respected family businesses in the country, led by our founder John Muir.

“Having joined Muir Group at the start of my career 30 years ago, I feel very privileged to return in the capacity of CEO and look forward to engaging positively with the many talented people across the company and our supply chain, as we work together to strengthen our position in the marketplace and achieve our shared goal of future growth across the Group.”

Stephen Mulvihill, Dough Howarth, Callum Ryan, Sarah Meadows, Duncan Tiley and Steven Dixon: Fleetsolve

Wirral onsite decarbonisation specialist Fleetsolve has welcomed six new recruits as part of the company’s ongoing expansion plans. Stephen Mulvihill joins as technical sales director, combining two decades of industry knowledge with a passion for helping organisations on their journey to net zero.

Doug Howarth joins the team in the role of business development manager. Doug is an industry veteran, bringing with him almost 25 years’ experience in the commercial heating sector. In his new role, Doug will take responsibility for driving opportunities within the existing client base as well as identifying new opportunities.

Callum Ryan joins as compliance manager, responsible for developing structures and procedures in line with industry standards and accreditations, as the company grows.

Sarah Meadows joins as executive assistant to the CEO. Sarah is a proven business operations leader, with a first-class honours degree in business management and HR. She will play a critical role in the business by managing the day-to-day functions of the senior leadership team.

Duncan Tiley joins as a mechanical engineer, responsible for CHP installation, servicing and maintenance. Duncan has a reputation for technical excellence and has a wealth of experience in the CHP industry, alongside 23 years served in the Royal Navy as a marine engineer.

Steven Dixon joins as electrical design engineer and will be responsible for the design and development of CHP-powered solutions. Steven has both corporate and international experience in the sector, with extensive experience working with major power critical projects.

Neil Ballett, Avant Homes East Midlands

Nottingham based Avant Homes East Midlands has strengthened its senior team with the appointment of a land director to support the housebuilder’s regional expansion strategy.

Neil Ballett, who joins from residential developer Taylor Wimpey, has 29 years’ experience in the housebuilding industry. In his new role, he is responsible for delivering the future land pipeline. This includes securing new land opportunities, managing the acquisition and legal processes to purchase sites, and securing planning consent.

Neil commented: “Avant Homes has a clear national and regional expansion strategy and I am excited for a new challenge to support the business in achieving its aspirations.

“Our land team is committed to finding and securing new land opportunities to enable us to deliver high-quality new homes across the region. I look forward to working with them to continually improve our product.”

Avant Homes East Midlands managing director, Ben Felton, added: “With our expansion plans well underway, it’s the perfect time to welcome Neil to the land team to support in finding new land opportunities and grow our pipeline of developments.
