West Yorkshire law firm expands and creates new jobs via seven-figure HSBC support

A West Yorkshire law firm is destined for further growth after switching to HSBC UK and securing a £2.9m funding package with the bank.

Schofield Sweeney has secured a funding package from HSBC UK to provide the firm with a £2m Partner Capital facility and a £900k Overdraft facility. The recent funding Schofield Sweeney has secured from HSBC UK will support the creation of around 20 new jobs at the firm, ranging from Legal Apprentices to Partner roles.

This will increase the existing employee headcount from 160 to 180, and create opportunities for existing and aspiring lawyers in Yorkshire. The expanded workforce at the firm will enable Schofield Sweeney to service more clients, something which is expected to increase turnover to £13.5m this year.

Graham Sweeney, managing partner at Schofield Sweeney, commented: “I am so proud of what we have achieved since the founding of Schofield Sweeney. Our team provides a full legal service, offering the expertise and reassurance to deal with a wide range of business and personal matters.

“We have always been focused on growing the business and our switch to HSBC UK and the funding package they have provided will facilitate this. We look forward to supporting more ambitious clients and enhancing our services to meet their needs”.

Mike Edwards, relationship director at HSBC UK, added: “We are very pleased to support the growth of Schofield Sweeney. It is great to help such an established firm generate opportunities and create jobs. We are excited to see how our support helps the firm develop over the coming years”.

Schofield Sweeney advises a diverse range of clients, including fast-growing SMEs, large multinationals, high-net-worth individuals, schools and charities. The commercial law firm was established in 1998 and has branches in Leeds, Bradford, and Huddersfield.

The firm was recently named Employer of the Year award at the Telegraph & Argus Bradford Means Business Awards. It was also shortlisted for eight awards, including Law Firm of the Year, at the 2023 Yorkshire Legal Awards.
