Looking for staff development opportunities in project management?

Registration is now open for the Association for Project Management (APM) Project Management Challenge.

Hosted by APM, the chartered membership organisation for the project profession, and its UK branches, Project Management Challenge sees teams compete to conceptualise, plan and deliver a project, from start to finish. The competition is designed to support the learning and development of individuals who are at the start of their project management careers, through hands-on experience.

The challenge is perfect for organisations across any industry sector with graduate, apprentice or early career staff with project management responsibilities. Registration for the competition closes on October 30, 2023.

What are the benefits for organisations to enter?

  • Access to an excellent development opportunity for staff starting out in project management.
  • Enhance organisational capacity to deliver successful change.
  • Increase your organisation’s CSR contribution by providing project support for community organisations and non profits.

How does the competition work?

  • Participants can choose which charity/cause or organisation they work with.
  • Teams comprised of three to six members, develop a project in line with a defined framework.
  • Teams require a project sponsor, sourced from their organisations, additional guidance is provided by a mentor and APM branch volunteers.

Previous APM Project Management Challenge winners have included young professionals from BAE Systems for a sustainability focused project for Special Educational Needs (SEN) schools and young project managers from Airbus who delivered a project for their chosen charity, Feed the Homeless.

Natalie Keppler, APM’s Branches Manager says: “Improving individual project management competence lies at the heart of our Project Management Challenge, which has been running for over a decade. It provides potential and new project professionals from organisations around the UK the opportunity to increase their project management experience, working as a team to deliver a real project all the way through. We look forward to welcoming this year’s team entries.”

Project Management Challenge runs from November to April 2024 and culminates in a final awards evening, where the highest scoring teams present on their project and winners are selected and announced.
