Scottish law firm expands with three new director appointments amid growth plans

Scottish law firm Anderson Strathern has strengthened its senior team with the appointment of three new directors. Chair Fraser Geddes says the firm is “set to continue its growth trajectory into 2024.”

The hires come as the firm gets set to move into its new Edinburgh headquarters in the city’s Capital Square district next month, in a move which demonstrates Anderson Strathern’s “market-leading mindset and green credentials”. The expansion builds on the hire of four new directors in spring this year, and two new partners over the summer.

Joanna Millar, a corporate and licensing specialist, Chambers-ranked solicitor with over 25 years’ experience joins as a Corporate Director. Joanna is well versed in restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, refinancing and advising family businesses.

She has a large licensing practice covering the whole of Scotland and reaching into England and is a recognised expert in various areas of licensing, including short term lets. Joanna also tutors in licensing and advising the family business at the University of Strathclyde.

Anderson Strathern has also welcomed back Mary Frances O’Neill as Litigation Director, who joins from Brodies LLP. Mary Frances has experience in major infrastructure projects, litigation and dispute resolution, project management and the public sector. In her previous spell at the firm she won the firm’s Best Newcomer award for her work on major projects.

Loraine Strachan, a senior leader in strategic transformation, finance and operations, joins Anderson Strathern as Finance Director, bringing a wealth of international experience across commercial sectors, consulting, and regulated professions.

She was previously Executive Director of Finance and Operations at the Law Society of Scotland. Prior to moving to Edinburgh, Loraine was Senior Vice president at Menzies Aviation plc in South Africa.

Fraser Geddes, chair at Anderson Strathern, commented: “When hiring, we seek out people who embody our values: ambition, empathy, purposeful growth, and innovation. The calibre of these three talented individuals bolsters our senior team as we set our sights on a continued growth trajectory in 2024.”
