Northern and Quadient on track with rail locker deal

Parcel deliveries are on track thanks to a rail station partnership.

Northern and Quadient have worked together to install nearly 50 automated lockers at hubs across the North of England.

And a further 30 locations across the Northern network are currently being identified, with a view to lockers being installed by spring next year.

Lockers have already been installed at stations in Alnmouth, Northumberland; Ulleskelf and Lealholm, in North Yorkshire; Apperley Bridge, in West Yorkshire; and Penistone, in South Yorkshire.

Further lockers have been fitted at Bamford and Hathersage, in Derbyshire; Burnley; Clifton, Bolton, Hag Fold, Hyde North, Euxton and Humphrey Park, in Greater Manchester.

Mark Powles, Northern commercial and customer director, said: “Our stations are at the heart of the communities they serve, and are the perfect base for other popular services people require.

“Access to parcel delivery lockers at stations is something customers have told us makes their life easier, as they combine travelling with collecting or dropping off their parcels.

“Quadient has a great reputation for customer service and we are delighted to partner with them.”

Katia Bourgeais-Crémel, Quadient director of lockers automation europe, added: “With about 100 million passenger journeys made each year on Northern’s network, we are excited to bring the convenience of automated lockers to their customers and to expand the network for our carrier and retail partners.”

Northern is the second largest train operator in the UK, with 2500 services a day to more than 500 stations across the North of England.
