Esh delivers ‘truly fantastic’ £13 million school
A newly-completed primary school has opened its doors to pupils, providing space to meet growing demand in Spennymoor, County Durham.
Esh Construction, one of the North of England’s largest privately-owned construction businesses, has successfully completed the £13 million Springmoor Grange School project for Durham County Council.
The new facility replaces Ox Close Primary and Ox Close Nursery Schools, offering space for more than 320 primary school pupils and 50 nursery children.
Boasting 21 classrooms, a nursery, learning community suite, library, office spaces, staff room, changing rooms, a hall and dining and kitchen facilities, bosses say the new school provides the ‘best learning environment’ possible.
Headteacher Anna Bowden said: “The opening of Springmoor Grange School has been a huge success. We are so excited to be together as one team in our new school. The children entered on their first day with huge smiles and were very excited to explore.
“The facilities are truly fantastic, and will help us enhance our current provision while also maintaining the high standards, strong community ethos and wraparound care provision.”
Springmoor Grange marks the third primary school Esh has delivered in recent years, following the completion of Bowburn Primary and Willow Wood Primary Schools.
More than 90 per cent of the workforce involved in the project was sourced from the North East, including 24 veterans.
In line with Esh’s Constructing Local strategy, several employability workshops were also delivered to local schools during the build, including ‘Construction in the Curriculum’, ‘Get into STEM’ and ‘Stay Safe’ programmes.
Grant Watson, construction manager for Esh’s commercial build division, added: “Working with Durham County Council, we are proud to deliver a new school that will support the local community and provide the best environment for children's learning and development.”
Esh Construction worked in partnership with Billinghurst George and Partners, Howarth Litchfield and Desco throughout the scheme.
