New programme helps tech professionals restart careers

A new programme has been launched to help highly skilled tech professionals re-enter the workforce after a career break, offering placements in project management and software engineering roles.

Diegesis, a London-based tech consultancy firm, has partnered with diversity and inclusion consultancy STEM Returners to provide a 12-week placement aimed at overcoming recruitment biases often faced by individuals returning to work.

The programme, which will be based at Diegesis’ headquarters in Wimbledon, offers real-world experience, mentoring, and support to help candidates transition smoothly back into the workplace.

Etienne Avisse-Brown, Diegesis project team leader, said: “At Diegesis, we highly value the diversity of knowledge, skills and experience that our people bring with them.

“We are excited to begin a new programme with STEM returners. We feel strongly that the depth of experience and breadth of competencies they can offer is of incredible value in this industry.”

STEM Returners, which since its inception in 2017 has helped more than 500 professionals across the UK return to work, will source candidates and provide career coaching, with the possibility of permanent employment at Diegesis following the placement.

Natalie Desty, director of STEM Returners, added: “We are very proud to be entering this new partnership with Diegesis to return highly skilled people back into the industry they love.

“There is a well-known skills shortage across the tech industry, but despite a clear need for people, professionals who have had a career break are often overlooked.

“Only by working together will we make vital changes in recruitment practices to help those who are finding it challenging to return to the sector and improve diversity and inclusion.”
