Spencer Group to revamp Reckitt innovation hub
A major collaboration will see two Hull-based businesses join forces to enhance a world-class research facility.
Spencer Group has been appointed to reconfigure parts of Reckitt’s Science and Innovation Centre in Hull, ensuring the state-of-the-art facility continues to meet evolving demands.
Opened in 2019, the £105 million centre serves as the global technical hub for well-known health brands like Nurofen and Strepsils.
The project will remodel sections of the ground and first floors, creating laboratories, fragrance evaluation areas, and ancillary spaces for Reckitt’s cutting-edge research operations.
Rob Bratherton, operations director at Spencer Building and Civil Engineering, said: “This is a very exciting project and an excellent fit for us, as we’re highly experienced at working in tightly regulated sectors which have high levels of quality control.
“Our Spencer Building and Civil Engineering team brings together expertise from other sectors, to ensure we’re able to deliver facilities of the highest quality, to precisely meet the needs of our clients.
“This is especially important for research and development facilities, which incorporate complex laboratory rooms and sensitive technology.”
The partnership reflects the shared heritage of Spencer Group and Reckitt, both founded in Hull, and their ongoing commitment to fostering local talent. Indeed, the project will include contributions from Isaac Barton, Alex Burr and Matthew Hunter, former students of Hull’s Ron Dearing UTC who are now employed by Spencer Group.
Darren Kilvington, managing director of Spencer Building and Civil Engineering, added: “We’re proudly based in Hull and are delighted to have been appointed to deliver this project by Reckitt, a world-class business rooted in the city.
“It will be a great showcase of two leading Hull businesses working together.”
