Newcastle International Airport unveils new flights

An airport has announced new services will take off next year.

Newcastle International Airport will introduce flights to Malaga and Berlin in 2025.

easyJet will launch a twice-weekly service to Malaga, beginning March 31.

The Spanish service comes after the airline relaunched two new routes from Newcastle to Amsterdam and Alicante earlier this year.

Ali Gayward, easyJet's UK country manager, said: “A new service from Newcastle is always great news, so we are sure our flights to Malaga, with more package holidays and even more things to do in this growing destination, will go down a treat on Tyneside and among our North East customers.

“We are always looking to add more great value connectivity for our customers in the North of England and provide even more choice, whether they are booking their next beach or city break or travelling for business.”

Leon McQuaid, the airport's director of aviation development, added: "It's fantastic to see easyJet further investing at Newcastle Airport.

“The airline's new routes to Amsterdam and Paris are proving very popular with both flight only and package holiday bookings, and I am sure this new route to Malaga will be well received by passengers.”

In addition, Eurowings, part of the Lufthansa Group, will introduce a direct route to Berlin from May 1, operating every Thursday and Sunday.

Eurowings already serves the North East with year-round flights to Düsseldorf, and recently celebrated ten years years of flying from Newcastle Airport.

Reinald Frankewitz, head of airport and network relations at Eurowings, added: “The new connection between Newcastle and Berlin is a real gain for both airports and their passengers.

“The German capital with its eventful history and urban present is an exciting destination, and I am sure that many travellers from Berlin will use the convenient direct connection to explore the North East of England.”

Leon added: “Berlin has always been a popular destination for the North East travelling public and we have received lots of customer feedback asking for a direct service - so it is fantastic Eurowings is launching this new service next summer.”

The announcements come after Newcastle was named the world’s best airport at the World Routes Conference in Bahrain.
