Lumo launches Dry January brew
A UK rail operator is bringing a mindful twist to its onboard menu with the launch of a locally sourced, low-alcohol beer in time for Dry January.
Lumo has partnered with Newcastle’s Donzoko Brewing Company to create Big Nothing 0.5%, a bright, citrusy brew available on its East Coast services between Edinburgh and London.
The refreshing addition caters to teetotallers, designated drivers and anyone seeking a flavourful, low-alcohol option during the new year.
Big Nothing 0.5% builds on Lumo’s commitment to locally sourced catering, offering a sustainable and responsible alternative to traditional alcoholic drinks. The initiative also aligns with rail safety priorities, following reports from the Rail Safety and Standards Board of a 45 per cent rise in alcohol-related incidents during the festive period.
Martijn Gilbert, managing director at Lumo, said: “January is a time when many customers re-evaluate their drinking habits.
“While our popular Lumo Train Beer remains a favourite, we’re proud to offer Big Nothing 0.5% as an exciting, low-alcohol alternative.
“Our partnership with Donzoko Brewing in Newcastle not only supports a fantastic local business but also aligns with our sustainability goals, featuring eco-friendly cans and low carbon credentials.”
Served in eco-friendly 330ml cans, Big Nothing joins Lumo’s onboard selection, including its popular Train Beer, an East Coast IPA introduced last year through the same collaboration with Donzoko Brewing.
Reece Hugill, founder and managing director at Donzoko Brewing Company, added: “The new beer complements Lumo’s plant-based food and drink offerings, further enhancing the onboard experience and ideal timing for Dry January.
“By expanding its partnership with Donzoko Brewing, Lumo is delivering a bold, mindful beverage that reflects its commitment to community, sustainability, and customer satisfaction.”
