Platform bridges gap for North East freelancers
A new membership platform has been launched to address the lack of dedicated business support for freelancers in the North East, providing a community-driven solution for self-employed professionals.
The North East Freelance Network (NEFN) is designed to “empower” freelancers with tools, connections and resources to sustain successful careers, without the pressure to scale up or hire teams.
Unlike traditional business support programs focused on growth or early-stage advice, NEFN caters specifically to established freelancers who want to remain independent while thriving in their fields.
For £12.99 a month, members gain access to benefits such as in-person coworking and networking events, expert-led workshops and a private online forum for peer support.
The platform also offers monthly activities, including ‘coastal netwalking’ and virtual coworking sessions, fostering collaboration and motivation among its members.
Jade Gillham, founder of NEFN, said: "Freelancers deserve the same level of support and resources that traditional businesses receive.
“Many freelancers aren't looking to create an agency or hire employees, they're looking to refine their skills, connect with like-minded professionals, and build a sustainable business on their own terms.
“The North East Freelance Network gives them the space and support to do just that."
“Unlike many traditional business support programmes that prioritise growth through team expansion, the North East Freelance Network recognises that not all freelancers want to scale in the traditional sense.
“Instead, this community is built around the idea of sustainable growth, peer connection and professional development.
“The platform offers a space for freelancers to be seen, heard, and supported; providing the resources to help them succeed as self-employed professionals.”
Rita Callender, business adviser at the North East BIC, added: “I’m proud to support the launch of the North East Freelance Network.
“This fantastic platform is designed to empower freelancers by offering essential resources, networking opportunities, and a vibrant, collaborative community where everyone can grow and succeed together.
“If you’re a freelancer in the region, I invite you to join the network and explore the amazing opportunities and support it provides.
“The North East BIC is proud to be part of the Enterprising North consortium, working alongside 11 other support organisations to ensure every freelancer, self-employed professional, and solopreneur in the North East has the tools they need to thrive.”
