Partnership delivers affordable housing boost
A major housing project is set to bring 106 affordable homes to Stockton, enhancing local housing options with a focus on sustainability.
Vistry Group and Beyond Housing have partnered to deliver the homes at Summerville Meadows, a £169 million development off Harrowgate Lane, with bosses saying the “strong relationship” will lead to “a new community” that offers “high-quality housing” and “choice for local people”.
Andrew Rennie, development director with Vistry North East, which is currently active on 16 construction sites around the region, said: “Our Summerville Meadows development will create a new community of mixed tenure homes that provide housing quality and choice for local people - specifically suited to their varied needs and requirements.
“These 106 affordable homes follow an earlier deal for 126 properties with Beyond Housing, agreed back last year and on which work is already underway.
“We are delighted to be partnering with Beyond Housing again, further strengthening a strong relationship which has already contributed to the delivery of highly successful projects across the North East.”
The first phase will feature 75 homes for social rent and 31 for shared ownership, with construction starting in late 2025 and completion expected by 2028.
Part of a broader plan to build 670 homes, the project will incorporate open market sales under Vistry’s Linden Homes brand, alongside homes for private rent and affordable housing.
Sustainable features include high insulation levels, air-source heat pumps and EV charging points, cutting CO2 emissions by over 43 per cent compared to current building regulation standards.
Supported by Homes England funding, the development will also include green spaces and access to the Castle Eden Walkway.
Clare Harrigan, director of development at Beyond Housing, which has regional offices in Redcar and Scarborough and is responsible for the letting, management and maintenance of over 15,000 homes across the North East and North Yorkshire, added: “We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Vistry North East to see the delivery a further 106 much needed high-quality homes in this area of Stockton.
“Their delivery provides affordable options for both home ownership and rent, supporting the needs and aspirations of both new and existing customers in the area.
“This scheme underpins our commitment to providing services our customers value, homes they want and places they are proud of.
“Shared ownership properties will soon be available for sale through our Viola Homes brand, with rented properties to be allocated through Tees Valley Home Finder closer to completion.”
