Carver Commercial toasts success with estate deals
A Darlington-based property specialist has completed two landmark property transactions for the Barningham Estate, securing both a prime development sale and a landmark pub lease.
Carver Commercial oversaw the sale of Glebe Farm Buildings, a 0.48-acre site in Barningham village, County Durham, with planning permission for a barn conversion and five new-build homes.
Bosses say the development will provide much-needed housing which “complements the village” and its heritage, preserving its “unique character”.
The firm also facilitated the lease of The Milbank Arms, a “much cherished” Grade II-listed pub, to James Hodgson of Fare Game Pubs.
James has exciting plans to enhance the venue’s food offering while maintaining its role as a community hub.
Planned renovations to the pub, which also boasts luxury guest rooms and holiday cottages, include kitchen and cellar upgrades, with a beer garden revamp scheduled for 2025.
James said: “We’ve always had a strong connection to The Milbank Arms. It’s a beautiful building with a rich history and has been a real hub for the community.
“When the opportunity arose to take it on, we couldn’t resist.
“Our vision is to create a destination pub that highlights the fantastic local produce available in this area, particularly the exceptional game.
“We’ve already started enhancing the pub, including upgrading the cellar to ensure the perfect conditions for a wide range of drinks and improving the kitchen facilities.
“Looking ahead, we’re excited to regenerate the courtyard area, transforming it into a stunning outdoor beer garden.
“These changes will help us provide an exceptional experience for both locals and visitors.”
Sir Edward Milbank, trustee of the Barningham Estate, added: “These transactions mark a pivotal moment for the Barningham Estate.
“The development at Glebe Farm will deliver sensitively designed homes that complement the village’s heritage, meeting local needs while preserving its unique character.
“The partnership with Fare Game Pubs ensures that The Milbank Arms continues to thrive as a cornerstone of village life, combining its rich history with an exciting future.
“Carver Commercial has been instrumental in facilitating these agreements, ensuring the outcomes align with our vision for sustainable growth and community engagement.
“We’re delighted to see these projects come to fruition and look forward to their positive impact on Barningham.”
Chris Farlow, director at Carver Commercial, added: “These transactions highlight the Estate’s forward-thinking approach to rural property management.
“The sale of Glebe Farm will enable high-quality housing development that complements the village, while the lease of The Milbank Arms ensures the future of a cherished local landmark.
“We are proud to have facilitated these agreements, which serve the needs of the Estate, the community, and future generations.”
