Dedicated endometriosis clinic fills care gap
Women across the North East now have access to a “game changing” dedicated endometriosis clinic, the first of its kind in the region, offering faster and more accessible specialist treatment for one of the most common yet often overlooked female health conditions.
Stockton-based Consultants Choice Clinic, which was launched recently at Infinity House on Surtees Business Park with a pledge to offer a “painless pathway” to care and to help ease NHS backlogs, has filled a major gap in care as the only dedicated provider within 100 miles.
Endometriosis, which affects around one in ten women, occurs when tissue similar to the womb lining grows elsewhere in the pelvis, causing chronic pain, heavy periods and, in some cases, infertility.
With the closest specialist clinics previously in Manchester and Edinburgh, the new facility provides an alternative to long NHS waiting times, allowing patients to self-refer without the need for a GP appointment.
It also removes the need for MRI scans by using pioneering diagnostic techniques.
Hailey Dobbs, founder and managing director of Consultants Choice Clinic, said: “Considering how common endometriosis is, until we launched, patients told us about the staggering lack of options and support locally for women in the North East.
“We were determined to fix that, and we hope our new endometriosis clinic will make accessing the care and treatment needed both easier and quicker - along with providing some hope that they now have a local service.
“The unfortunate reality is that long NHS waiting lists and GP waiting times have made it harder for patients to quickly access the care they often urgently need.
“For a condition like endometriosis, which can cause chronic pain, fatigue and impact a woman’s ability to conceive, patients understandably want treatment as early as possible.
“That’s why we are proud to launch this specific endometriosis clinic in the region, which is not only affordable and efficient but supports the NHS by providing a second route to the care you deserve.”
