True North Brew secures 'iconic' city venue

A Sheffield brewery has bought a landmark venue in a deal that strengthens its local presence.

True North Brew Co. has purchased the Grade II-listed Abbeydale Picture House that dates back to the 1920s, with legal support from Sheffield-based law firm Bell & Buxton. 

Bosses say the acquisition marks a significant moment for both the brewery and the city, preserving a “piece of iconic Sheffield history” while expanding the company’s footprint and supporting the “growth of Abbeydale Road and Sheffield”.

Kane Yeardley, owner of True North Brew Co., said: “This is the biggest and perhaps the most challenging project we’ve ever undertaken, especially as the Picture House is Grade-II listed, and we couldn’t be more excited. 

“By working with local and regional experts, we aim to employ people with the right skills, attitudes and passion to grow careers in hospitality and event management. 

“We want to create a space buzzing with energy that supports the continued growth of Abbeydale Road and Sheffield as a whole.”

Bell & Buxton, led by commercial property partner Sam Price, has a longstanding relationship with True North Brew, providing legal expertise across various projects, with this latest deal reinforcing their ongoing partnership.
