RWO delight at Cardiff data centre contract
A Newcastle-based engineering firm says it has achieved a significant milestone after securing its first project in a new wave of advanced data centres.
RWO is delivering civil, structural and geo-environmental engineering services for Stockton-based Latos Data Centres’ hyperscale facility in Cardiff, with bosses saying the project “is a big step forward” in growing RWO’s presence in the data centre design and build sector.
Collaborating with Teesside architect Create Architecture, RWO will help Latos meet increasing demand for domestic data processing and storage capabilities, particularly with the rise of AI technology.
Due to open in 2025, the Cardiff facility, powered by renewable energy, will offer 90MVA of capacity across 50,400sq metres.
The data centre is the first of Latos’ 40 planned UK sites by 2030.
Ross Oakley, RWO managing director, said: “Securing this work is another big step forward for us as we continue to grow our presence in the burgeoning data centre design and build sector.
“Our involvement through the planning and pre-construction phase, coupled with our in-depth knowledge of highly-specialist industrial and temperature-controlled facilities such as this, has enabled us to bring forward an effective programme of engineering to deliver the project.”
