STACK set to open four venues in 2025

A North East-based leisure operator is set for another year of rapid expansion with plans to open four new venues in 2025.

STACK, known for transforming shipping containers and repurposing buildings into vibrant food and entertainment hubs, will build on its successful 2024, which saw the launch of three new sites.

The flagship STACK Newcastle at Worswick Chambers, which is located close to the original STACK and will be the biggest development to date, is on track to open in late spring, boasting eight bars, eight street food vendors, a coffee shop, a cocktail bar and SIDESHOW – a competitive socialising area offering interactive shuffleboard, interactive darts and private karaoke booths.

The venue also has a roof terrace and an outdoor courtyard with a stage and big screen.

It will be followed by STACK Bishop Auckland at Newgate Street in the summer, with STACK Durham and STACK Whitley Bay – housed in the former Empress Ballroom – opening in autumn and winter, respectively.

The company also plans to expand STACK Seaburn in Sunderland, with planning applications having been submitted.

Neill Winch, chief executive of STACK, confirmed that alongside these projects, progress is also being made on several other sites across the country.

He said: “We are at varying stages with our sites in Sheffield, Leeds, Carlisle, Wigan, Northampton, and Manchester, but we are making great progress with all of them.

These new developments follow the success of STACK Lincoln, STACK Middlesbrough, and the fan-favourite 2,000 plus capacity St. James’ STACK, jointly created with Newcastle United Football Club, which has proved an enormous hit, especially on match days.

Neil added: “We had an incredible year, with all sites performing well above expectations.

“It’s clear that our formula works – a carefully curated mix of excellent quality street food, vibrant bars, and first-class entertainment tailored for everyone.”
