Bannatyne Group powers up with solar switch
A health and wellness company is cutting costs and carbon emissions through a solar energy initiative.
The Bannatyne Group, founded by Dragons’ Den star Duncan Bannatyne, has partnered with Merseyside-based Shawton Energy to install solar panels across eight of its health clubs, hotels and spas, including sites in Leeds, Norwich and its head office in Darlington.
The rollout of 967 panels and eleven inverters has already delivered energy savings of up to 25 per cent.
Duncan said: “As a business, we're committed to reducing our carbon footprint and being at the forefront of environmental responsibility in our industry.
“Solar power generation is a win-win solution for us and aligns perfectly with our sustainability objectives while also providing certainty on the cost of our energy, which is one of our biggest costs.”
The project, funded through Shawton’s Power Purchase Agreement, allows Bannatyne to benefit from lower energy costs without upfront investment, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability while reducing exposure to fluctuating energy prices.
Jamie Shaw, chief executive of Shawton Energy, added: “The Bannatyne Group has shown real leadership in embracing renewable energy, and we are proud to have delivered a solution that aligns with their financial and environmental goals.
“Our tailored approach has ensured minimal disruption to their operations while delivering significant cost savings and carbon reductions.”
Sean McNicholas, director of estates and facilities at The Bannatyne Group, which operates 67 clubs, 46 spas and three hotels across the country, added: “As a health and wellness business, it’s important that we consider not just the services we offer but how we operate sustainably.
“Solar energy helps us address energy costs while reducing our environmental impact.
“For us, the decision to start using solar was about securing long-term savings and supporting our commitment to a greener future for both our business and our members.”
