Publican expands portfolio with York Irish pub move

A publican has expanded with a city venue deal.

Daniel Van Hymus has bought The Maltings, in York.

The deal – completed for an undisclosed sum – has transformed the base into Irish-themed pub The Dubliner.

Daniel, who already runs an Irish pub on Newcastle’s Quayside, says the venture has created 12 jobs and will add almost £200,000 a year to York’s music scene.

He was supported by Newcastle-based law firm Hay & Kilner’s commercial property and employment team to secure the deal.

Daniel said: “We're buzzing to bring the magic of The Dubliner to York.

“We would like to thank everyone involved in getting the deal over the line, in particular Georgia Whitfield, of Hay & Kilner; Elliot Newby, of Stephensons; and the former proprietors Anita, Sean and Maxine.

“We also couldn’t have done it without local building firm Sorrell and a host of local tradesmen.”

Georgia, Hay & Kilner associate, added: “We were very pleased to support Daniel with his acquisition of The Dubliner.

“We wish him well in emulating the success of his Newcastle venue.”
