Getting to know... Claire Simmons
In a new feature for Bdaily looking at the person behind the business profile, Claire Simmons, partner and head of residential conveyancing at law firm Hay & Kilner, talks about her route into the legal sector, the delight she takes in supporting clients' journeys and how she relaxes outside of work.
We know you as the partner and head of residential conveyancing at law firm Hay & Kilner, but who is the person behind the title? Tell us a little about what makes you tick...
The satisfaction of the continuous praise from clients and building strong, long-lasting connections with them and others in the industry.
Did you always want to work in residential property?
Yes. I enjoy the buzz and pace of transactional work and supporting clients through their property journey.
No two days are the same.
What’s the best bit about your job? And the worst?
The best bits are the team I work with and the clients.
With clients, I tend to get to know the whole family, including the name of their pets.
A lot of my work dovetails with all of the other fantastic departments we have in the firm, and we have a very collegiate approach, which enables us to deliver the best service to clients.
The worst bit about the job is having to tell a client that there is a legal hurdle which simply cannot be overcome, as we have a successful track record of dealing with more complex transactions and difficult scenarios.
What do you consider to be your greatest achievement?
Breaking the mould on residential conveyancing and moving towards a tailored high net worth service, improving standards and client experience.
How do you relax outside of work?
I focus on wellbeing, spending time with family and friends. I keep fit and am a keen swimmer.
What makes the North East such a great place to live and work?
It is a beautiful part of the UK, with some great places and properties.
We have a diverse and inclusive culture, and the people are down to earth and friendly.
Tell us something about you we didn’t know...
I enjoy wild water swimming in the North Sea.
