Morro breaks ground on Bilston housing scheme
A new eco-friendly housing development is taking shape in Wolverhampton.
Midlands housebuilder Morro Partnerships has broken ground on 11 gas-free, EPC ‘A’ rated homes in Bilston, following its appointment by City of Wolverhampton Council.
Supported by a £620,000 Homes England grant, bosses say the project will “transform” land on Villiers Avenue into two and three-bed affordable rental homes.
They add that timber frames and solar panels will enhance energy efficiency, while the scheme will also fund improvements to East Park tennis courts to offset the loss of Bilston tennis club.
Construction is expected to be complete by spring 2026.
Tom Broadway, managing director for Morro Partnerships in the West Midlands, said: “Supporting sustainable and affordable housing projects is at the very heart of what we do at Morro.
“These high-quality, energy efficient homes will not only provide more choice for Bilston residents but leave a lasting positive impact on the surrounding area.
“It’s great to step into spring with construction well underway, and by this next time next year, we will be preparing final handovers and starting to see people move in.”
Councillor Steve Evans, deputy leader and cabinet member for city housing at City of Wolverhampton Council, added: “This is a great example of the council’s strategy to bring small disused sites back into use for the benefit of residents and communities.
“There is an increasing demand for housing, and this forms part of our pipeline of new council properties we are developing to deliver more good homes in well-connected neighbourhoods across the city.”
