Fitness firm serves up new padel courts
A North Yorkshire fitness venue is expanding its offer with a new facility dedicated to one of the world’s fastest-growing sports.
Work is now under way on two padel courts at the Bannatyne health club in Ingleby Barwick.
The development will replace an underused five-a-side football pitch and includes floodlights, fencing and a translucent canopy for year-round use.
Padel, a tennis-squash hybrid, is surging in popularity globally, with over 25 million players across 100 countries.
Plans were recently unveiled by developer Capital & Centric and Club de Padel to create a five-court venue at Cannon Brewery, in Neepsend, and by Manchester-headquartered Pure Padel, who are opening a new site in Darlington next month.
Duncan Bannatyne, chairman and chief executive of Darlington-headquartered Bannatyne Group, said: “Our investment in the padel courts at Ingleby Barwick is a testament to our ongoing commitment to enhancing our member experience and providing diverse, innovative sporting opportunities.
“Padel is not just a game; it's a social experience, and we are thrilled to introduce this sport, which is growing in popularity all the time, to our communities.”
