Gentoo launches £170 million repairs scheme
A housing association has launched a £170 million maintenance programme.
Gentoo is working with PHS Solutions (0800 Repair), Esh Construction and RE:GEN Group North East on the Gentogether scheme.
Bosses at the Sunderland-headquartered operator say the ten-year venture will “significantly modernise customers’ homes” across Wearside by delivering improvements to thousands of properties a year.
They say £36.5 million work – including electrical rewires and kitchen and bathroom replacements – will be carried out on around 3000 properties in the scheme’s first three years, adding it will also create apprenticeship and training opportunities.
Peter Akers, Gentoo director of asset and sustainability, said: “Gentogether is a unique approach to partnerships, allowing us to collaborate with our trusted contractors and share the same goals in an open and transparent way.
“Not only will customers’ homes be improved, but the local economy and local people will benefit from employment opportunities in a thriving community too.”
Simon Watson, RE:GEN North East operations director, said: “We are incredibly proud to have secured this contract to deliver improvements to homes across Sunderland.
“Together, we will be working smarter to create a lasting, positive impact on the community. As a Sunderland-based company, it’s really rewarding to be making a difference at home.”
Andrew Harrow, framework manager at Bowburn-based Esh Construction, said: “Through our established expertise in planned maintenance and refurbishment, we look forward to delivering high-quality upgrades that make a real difference in communities.”
Jason Oakes, sales director at Houghton-le-Spring-based 0800 Repair, added: “This partnership allows us to make a meaningful impact alongside like-minded organisations.”
