Parklane Plowden Chambers appoints new head
Newcastle and Leeds-based barristers’ set Parklane Plowden Chambers has appointed a new head of chambers.
Elizabeth Hodgson takes on the leadership role following five years of service by James Murphy, her predecessor.
A specialist in personal injury and clinical negligence, she has been a member of Parklane Plowden since 2001 and deputy head of chambers since 2021.
She becomes the first woman to hold the top position in the set’s history, following its 2007 merger.
Elizabeth said: “Chambers has thrived under James’ outstanding leadership over the past five years, furthering its reputation as a progressive set committed to developing positive outcomes in all our specialist practice areas.
“I thank him, both on behalf of Chambers and personally, for the enormous contribution he has made to Chambers’ success in that time.
“I look forward to working with our excellent senior management team to build upon that success as we continue to grow and evolve Chambers for the benefit of our clients, our staff and our members.”
Parklane Plowden, home to 119 barristers, is recognised as a leading chambers in the North.
In the latest rankings, it was placed Band 1 by Chambers & Partners and tier one by The Legal 500 across multiple practice areas including family, employment and clinical negligence.
James Murphy remains a practising member of chambers, specialising in industrial disease and serious personal injury.
