Housing association in £44 million repairs plan
A housing association has unveiled £44 million plans to upgrade thousands of properties.
Gentoo is set to revamp more than 4000 homes across Sunderland.
Bosses say the programme will include roof replacements, new gas boilers and heating systems, kitchen and bathroom refits and electrical rewires.
They add energy efficiency improvements – supported by the Warm Homes Social Housing Fund – will also be carried out to more than 1300 homes to fit loft and cavity wall insulation, low-energy lighting, solar panels and air source heat pumps.
Upgrades will be carried out across 2025 and 2026, with work supported by firms including 0800 Repair, PHS Home Solutions, Bell Group, Esh Construction, RE:GEN Group, Anglian Windows and Isoler.
Peter Akers, Gentoo director of asset and sustainability, said: “We are committed to improving and modernising homes, focusing greatly on improving energy efficiency.
“We’re looking forward to working with our contracting partners to deliver the work and offer a brilliant service to customers.”
The scheme comes just days after Gentoo launched the ‘Gentogether’ partnership, which it says will deliver £170 million of modernisation works to thousands of homes over the next ten years.
