Care training firm expands with Surrey partnership
A care sector skills organisation has expanded with a new partnership.
Training in Care is working with Surrey’s Whitmore Vale Housing Association.
Officials say the move will “help address the UK’s social care crisis” by upskilling staff in the latter’s homes across the South East county.
They add it will also seek to attract more people to the care sector, which, according to latest Government figures, is grappling with more than 130,000 vacancies.
Dr Angela Brown, founder and chief executive of South Shields-headquartered Training in Care, said: “Care workers are the backbone of our health and social care system.
“But a perfect storm of an ageing population and lack of employees has led to the industry facing unprecedented staffing shortages that are putting immense pressure on services and those who rely on them.
“Now, more than ever, we need bold investment in people.”
Sonja Jones, chief executive of Whitmore Vale Housing Association, which provides care, support and housing to people with learning disabilities and autism, said the venture could become a blueprint for national provision.
She said: “Training in Care ticked all the boxes.
“The training programmes they have developed allow our staff to put what they’re learning into practice in their day-to-day roles, and everything included in the curriculum is relevant to their individual jobs, so it means we can upskill our staff while they work.
“We have already signed up more than two dozen staff to undertake training over the next three years, and there is no reason why we can’t work together to roll this out across the UK.”
