Entrepreneur launches heat pump servicing firm

A North East entrepreneur is launching a new business to tackle the UK’s growing heat pump servicing challenge.

Mutha Cuva, led by Amy Mooney, offers a subscription-based, tech-driven solution to simplify and scale heat pump aftercare.

Designed to work with any heat pump model, the service uses automated bookings, remote monitoring and AI-powered engineer support to ease the burden for homeowners and improve efficiency for technicians.

Amy, who previously grew a heating business into a heat pump installation firm, has launched a £250,000 pre-seed investment round for her new venture.

She said: “I’m incredibly excited about what we’re building.

“Not just because it’s a great business opportunity, but because it’s a chance to make a real difference in the transition to clean energy.”

The launch follows the introduction of the Future Homes Standard in May 2025, which banned gas boilers in new-build homes and triggered a widespread rollout of heat pumps as the default low-carbon alternative.

With annual heat pump installations expected to reach 600,000 by 2028, demand for reliable servicing is set to rise sharply.

Amy added: “The science is clear and the Met Office has warned of more extreme weather ahead - we need to decarbonise our homes.

“But we simply can’t do that while we’re still relying on gas boilers.

“Heat pumps play an important role here but without proper aftercare they risk becoming inefficient, expensive and frustrating to live with.

“We’re building Mutha Cuva to solve that – a smart, scalable platform that supports both homeowners and engineers.

“The potential here is enormous.

“With the right backing, we can become the go-to name in heat pump servicing across the UK.

Backing the venture is James Robson MBE, an exited founder and venture advisor with a background in scaling sustainable businesses.

He added: “Amy has the right mix of experience, timing and vision.

“Mutha Cuva is solving a real problem in a market that’s about to explode.

“I’ve worked with many early-stage companies, and what stands out here is the clarity of the model, the depth of sector knowledge and the urgency of the need.

“I’m proud to support them as an adviser and investor.

“This is exactly the kind of business the UK needs to accelerate its transition away from fossil fuels.”
