BeaconHouse Events supported Groundwork NE & Cumbria's revamp of community allotments in Middlesbrough

Charity and sponsor work on allotment makeover

A charity has teamed up with a sponsor to deliver an allotment makeover.

Groundwork NE & Cumbria worked with BeaconHouse Events to refresh a Middlesbrough community garden site.

Improvements included shed painting, new raised planting beds and general tidying.

The work was carried out ahead of Groundwork NE & Cumbria community sessions focused on helping local residents grow fruit and vegetables and manage their own allotment plots at the Cargo Fleet Lane site.

Newcastle-based BeaconHouse Events provides annual donations to support Groundwork NE & Cumbria’s projects, with staff also taking part in volunteer days.

Mike Dent, of Groundwork NE & Cumbria, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to the team at BeaconHouse Events for their efforts in transforming our allotments, and for all their generous fundraising and donations.

“Thanks to their hard work and ongoing support, the site is now ready to welcome the community when public sessions begin in September.”

Sarah Thackray, co-founder of BeaconHouse Events and voluntary director of Groundwork NE & Cumbria, added: “Sustainability is at the heart of our business.

“Our team loved getting their hands dirty, knowing their efforts would help transform this space and create a lifeline for local people.”
