Merit powers on with battery centre contract
An off-site building maker has powered up its order book with a green energy contract.
Merit has created an 800sq metre clean and dry zone at the UK Battery Industrialisation Centre (UKBIC).
Bosses say the work “reinforces Coventry-based UKBIC’s position as a leader in the UK’s transition towards electrification and sustainable battery technology”.
The development includes five production rooms and builds on a previous project to create clean and dry space for battery manufacture.
Tony Wells, chief executive at Merit, which operates from a base in Cramlington, Northumberland, said: “We take great pride in our continued partnership with UKBIC and the successful completion of this project further solidifies our capabilities.
“We have delivered this extension in a notably shorter timeframe and at a reduced cost, aligning seamlessly with UKBIC’s objectives for innovation.”
Richard LeCain, UKBIC chief technology officer, added: “We’re delighted to unveil our clean and dry zone, tailored to meet the fast-evolving demands of the battery industry.
“The clean and dry zone enables organisations to push the boundaries of innovation and efficiency in battery technology.”
The work adds to a Merit order book that includes a modular unit project at Bedford Hospital, support for the Seaton Delaval-based NHS Medicines Manufacturing Centre and a hybrid theatre and MRI site at York Hospital.
