Robbie rocks Come Together Festival

With time travel still firmly in the realms of sci-fi, seeing a performer whose songs defined your university days is the next best thing.

From the moment Robbie Williams appeared on the Come Together Festival stage on Wednesday night, I was in my early 20s again.

I’d missed Knebworth 2003, so this was my chance to see Robbie live - 22 years late.

And I’m sort of glad it worked out this way. Robbie was older and wiser, but still the king of entertainment. 

He was reflective and honest - taking the audience (of mainly 30-60 somethings) on a wander down memory lane and then upping the tempo to perform hit after hit.

He brought in some Geordie slang, sang Fog on the Tyne and was kind enough not to even mention Alexander Isak.

His energy was infectious, bouncing from heartfelt ballads to his cult anthems, while the crowd sang along word for word. 

For those of you planning to go this evening, here are our top tips:

• The pizzas from Fire & Dough are hands down the best I’ve ever had - the queue was long but service was super speedy 
• The last cocktail bar before the toilets serves large, mega-pint cocktails – perfect for getting you through a whole set – and didn’t have a massive queue.
• When they say they search you, they really mean it. Not even the pack of Haribo we took in for the kids made it past security!

Friday’s headliner will be Kings of Leon, with support from Courteeners, known for their chart-topping tracks Not Nineteen Forever and Lose Control. Also performing are Reytons, The Snuts, The Cribs, Chloe Slater and more.
