A week in the life... Martin Crammond

Martin Crammond, director at North Shields-based health and safety training firm Carney Consultancy, provides an insight into his typical working week, highlighting how he balances commercial sector demands with life outside the office.

Monday: What gets you motivated for the start of the working week?

The excitement of a new working week gives me a buzz of enthusiasm.

This is where the optimistic side of me takes over and I look for new opportunities.

Tuesday: The diary is full of meetings and commitments – how do you balance such responsibilities with productivity?

I always try to ensure when I have meetings that they are meaningful and the client gets my full attention.

I then have my day-to-day activities, which my meetings generally fit around, to ensure I stay on track with my deliverables.

Wednesday: Halfway there – how do you stay focused and re-energise yourself for the days to come?

I have high motivation throughout the working week and like to balance this out by spending time with my family, my wife and my dog Charlie.

I also try to fit in running throughout the week, as this really gives me some headspace and clarity.

Thursday: The weekend draws closer – how do you remain on top of your to-do list as the end of the week gets nearer?

I have a to-do list, something I didn’t have until my business mentor Angela Carney, Carney Consultancy managing director, instilled into me.

I break this down into high-level to-dos, with smaller, more achievable jobs attached, to ensure actions are being managed accordingly.

Friday: The last day – how do you approach Fridays, and how do you unwind over the weekend?

Friday is one of my favourite days, not only as the weekend is drawing closer, but because the achievements of the team can be realised.

We have a great team at Carney Consultancy and, collectively, we all look forward to the close of play on Friday as everyone works hard.

At the weekend, I like to start off with a park run; this really sets me up for the weekend, gives me a clear head and more space for being present with loved ones.

By Sunday afternoon, I’m thinking of the week ahead, with the same enthusiasm as ever.
