'Growth on radar' as tech firm joins defence project
A radio frequency technology firm says growth is on the radar after entering a defence venture.
Filtronic has joined the TEAM FORTITUDE partnership alongside Penten Amio and Mercury-EW.
Officials say the move responds to the “growing demand for sovereign capability in the electronic warfare domain (and will deliver) a scalable ecosystem that can rapidly respond to evolving defence requirements”.
They add Filtronic – which complements a base at NETPark, in Sedgefield, County Durham, with sites in Leeds, Manchester and Cambridge – will provide design, development, manufacturing and testing of complex radio frequency hardware.
Hailing its place on the TEAM FORTITUDE endeavour, Nat Edington, Filtronic chief executive, said: “We’re proud to be a founding partner, bringing our engineering expertise to support the UK’s sovereign defence capabilities.
“This partnership showcases the strength of collaboration between innovative British SMEs and creates a robust platform for delivering cutting-edge electronic warfare technology at home and abroad.”
The move comes just days after Filtronic secured a record £47.3 million deal to supply SpaceX with power amplifiers.
That agreement followed a number of previous deals with the Elon Musk-backed interstellar venture, as well as further partnerships with Leonardo and Airbus Defence and Space.
