Grimsby residents help shape town’s future
A North East Lincolnshire town is set to benefit from community-led investment.
Grimsby Together is a new initiative aimed at improving the town through input from local residents, businesses and community leaders.
Backed by Our Future, the Greater Grimsby Board and North East Lincolnshire Council, the programme will guide how the £20 million Plan for Neighbourhoods grant is spent.
Recent working groups gathered views from 80 local leaders on topics such as business and housing, feeding into the official plan to be submitted to Government.
The funding is part of a national £1.5 billion scheme supporting 75 towns over ten years, with an emphasis on community involvement in decision-making.
Councillor Philip Jackson, portfolio holder for regeneration, economy, devolution and skills, said: “This project is a great opportunity for our town.
“We are already undertaking one of the biggest transformations in the area’s history with the redevelopment of Freshney Place, and this can only be a positive addition to that.
“Grimsby Together will help shape the future of our town and it is great that investment will be led by the ideas of local organisations and people who are dedicated to improving the lives of residents and visitors.”
Residents are invited to a public drop-in event on September 25 at Grimsby Central Hall to see proposals, share ideas and help shape how the town invests in its future.
Emily Bolton, co-founder and chief executive of Our Future, added: “It has been inspiring to see so many people from across the town working together to shape this plan and commit to building a thriving future.
“This is all about Grimsby, and on September 25 we are excited to meet a wider group of people, share the progress so far, and hear new ideas on how this funding can support positive change the town cares about.”
