Cube Cold set to expand with new Theale base
A Thames Valley logistics company is set to grow its operations and create new jobs.
Cube Cold, a leading European provider of temperature-controlled logistics solutions, has been granted planning permission to establish a new 10,155sq metres headquarters at New Aquitaine House, in Theale, through its UK arm Pulleyn Properties.
The redevelopment will include extended warehouse and office space, partial demolition and recladding of existing structures, as well as improved access routes, landscaping and modernised car parking facilities.
In addition, the project will target a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating and deliver a biodiversity net gain of more than 17 per cent, combining environmental sustainability with operational growth.
Planning and development consultancy Lichfields, working closely with West Berkshire Council, Theale Parish Council and local economic development bodies, was instrumental in securing approval for the expansion.
Their expertise helped ensure the project met both regulatory and community expectations, supporting the site’s strategic development.
Nick Kirby, planning director at Lichfields, said: “We are delighted to have secured planning permission for Cube Cold’s much needed expansion into New Aquitaine House, which will bring a vacant building into use alongside substantial economic and operational benefits to the local community and broader region.
“The project highlights Lichfields’ expertise in steering complex major developments through the planning system and we’re proud to have played a key role in enabling Cube Cold to increase their capacity for growth in the Thames Valley.”
Construction is expected to take 46 weeks and will create 155 jobs during the build.
Once operational, the facility will accommodate up to 145 permanent roles, with an additional 40 spin-off positions contributing to the local economy.
The development is projected to deliver £24.5 million in gross value added (GVA) during construction and £10.3 million annually once operational.
