My Delhi brings national award ‘back home’
A North East Indian restaurant is celebrating national recognition once again.
My Delhi Newcastle has been named Best Street Food in Britain at the 2025 Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards (ARTA), often described as the “Oscars of the Asian restaurant world”.
The award comes just three years after the restaurant first claimed the title, highlighting its ongoing appeal and culinary excellence.
Hosted by BBC journalist Samantha Simmonds, the award ceremony recognised the finest South Asian restaurants across the UK, with My Delhi Newcastle beating notable competitors from Leeds, Nottingham and Bolton to take the top spot in the street food category.
Elahi Amin, director of My Delhi, said: “We’ve brought it back home.
“We first won this award in 2023, and to bring it back to the North East feels incredible.
“We are absolutely thrilled and deeply honoured.
“This award is a testament to our amazing team who pour their heart into delivering a dining experience like no other.
“Whilst street food is our forte, we’re so much more than that.
“We offer a full, exceptional dining experience with a vibrant drinks menu and a passion for authentic flavours.”
This latest accolade adds to a remarkable year for the group, which was also listed by Tripadvisor among the ‘Best of the Best,’ placing it in the top one per cent of restaurants worldwide.
Known for bringing the authentic flavours of India’s capital to the UK, My Delhi blends vibrant street food with North East hospitality.
Its growing presence now spans Newcastle, Sunderland and Leicester, with further openings planned for the year ahead.
