Distribution firm drives on with haulier takeover

A warehousing firm says it is in gear for growth after a haulage business takeover.

Expect Distribution has bought Longs of Leeds.

Bosses say the deal for the family-owned haulier “strengthens its capabilities and reinforces its commitment to providing high-quality solutions to businesses across the UK”.

The agreement will allow Longs of Leeds’ owners Andrew and Stephen Long to exit the business.

Bradford-headquartered Expect Distribution employs about 450 staff and operates across the warehousing, delivery and consolidation sectors for clients including Amazon vendors, household cleaning brand Astonish, Card Factory and pharmaceutical companies.

Longs of Leeds traces its roots back to 1918 and provides warehousing and distribution services through a fleet of more than 100 trucks.

Matthew Kilner, Expect Distribution’s managing director, said: “Longs of Leeds is a respected name in the industry, and we’re excited to welcome the company into the family.”

Andrew Long, Longs of Leeds’ exiting managing director, added: “The time is right to pass the business to new owners who can take it forward.

“I believe the business will continue to grow and thrive under its new owners.”

The deal was supported by law firm Brabners, whose corporate and commercial property teams provided advice to Longs of Leeds.

Brett Cooper, Brabners’ corporate team partner, said: “Longs of Leeds is a quality family business with an experienced team and strong customer base.

“The deal will allow the company to thrive under new ownership while supporting Expect Distribution’s continued market share growth in Yorkshire and strengthening its national networks.”

SJL Advisory and Azets also provided corporate finance advice, with Clarion delivering legal support to Expect Distribution.
